A taste of Austurland

A taste of Austurland

Day tour – Food – Local cuisine

If you are a foodie this is the tour for you. East Iceland, or Austurland as we call it, has long been associated with an abundance of food. From the locally grown vegetables, to fresh fish and lamb from the mountainsides Austurland truly is bountiful. In this day tour you will get an insight into how food is handled and grown in the region. We invite you to come have a taste of Austurland.

The tour starts in Egilsstaðir. Our first stop is at Vallanes farm where you have a light breakfast and get to know what it is like to grow vegetables and barley in such a cold climate. From there we head over to the eastern fjords where our first stop will be the farm Havarí where you will enjoy lunch. After that we will drive along the eastern fjords to the little café of Sumarlína for some refreshments. The night ends at the fine restaurant of Hildibrand in Neskaupsstaður where you will enjoy a five-course meal. At the end of the evening we drive you back to your accommodation in Egilsstaðir.
